Would you please advise with a simple yes or no – if you are elected, would you support pressuring the coalition Government to bring forward, and vote for, the Member’s Bill introduced by NZ First, which seeks to repeal the Health (Fluoridation of Drinking Water) Amendment Act 2021 so that decision making for fluoridation can be returned to the hands of each local council?

Yes, I support the NZ First bill to return decision making to local council’s on water fluoridation.

Jackie Wheeler

Yes, I support the NZ First bill to return decision making to local council’s on water fluoridation.

Dr Michael Morris

I have done a great deal of research on flouride in water based on what has been reported in the scientific literature.  As far as I understand it, as an environmental scientist, flouridation at the dose provided, does more good than harm.  So as things stand, I will be supporting it.  I will be prepared to revise my view if new evidence comes to light.

I thin fluoride provides important benefits for dental health and is safe at the doses used in municipal water, but I also think the views of those who are opposed should be acknowledged and respected instead of arrogantly dismissed.

Brent Barrett

No.  I do share some of your concerns around the health risks of Flouride ingestion.   However, as it’s a national matter, I’m happy with the decision being made by central government, .  So no, I don’t support the NZ First Bill to put this decision back to local communities as I think it’s mis-directed.  What I do support is regular  reviews of the nation’s stance on Flouride in public water supplies, including commissioning of new scientific research where there are information gaps.
