“Unreasonable risk of harm” from fluoridation not enough for an injunction. Says Judge.

Whangarei District Council’s (WDC) application for an interim injunction seeking to delay the start of fluoridation until their substantive case has been heard later this year, has been declined.
WDC has been ordered by the Director-General of Health to start fluoridation or face severe fines ($200K plus $10K every day thereafter).
WDC’s application was partly declined on technicalities (see below) but the more important consideration was the risk to public health which was dismissed by Justice Grau….. continued.
Whangarei District Council votes to take court action
In response to the continued threats by the Director-General of Health, the Whangarei District Council voted at their 18 December 2024 meeting to take court action against the DG. See Council saves Whangarei from Fluoridation.
Director-General of Health sends threatening letter to Whangarei District Council
The Director-General of Health has sent a threatening letter to the Whangarei District Council because they chose to reject the directive to fluoridate. She says she is “looking at options”. On the 3rd of August 2023 a number of Whangarei residents, including retired Whangarei dentist Dr Lawrie Brett, spoke to the Council voicing their opposition to this draconian and non-sensical measure.
The minutes of the next Whangarei District Council meeting (24th August) provide a summary of the speakers and the response by the council. The council are claiming there is nothing they can do to stop the rollout of fluoridation when, in fact, they could seek an Interim Injunction pending the outcome of the New Health New Zealand Judicial Review.

A Public Talk on Fluoridation was held at The Ledge on Wednesday the 26th July 2023. Mary Byrne and Dr Lawrie Brett explained why fluoridation is ineffective, unsafe, a violation of basic rights and what can be done to stop it.
