BREAKING NEWS – USA FEDERAL COURT FINDS FLUORIDATION POSES AN UNREASONABLE RISK TO HUMAN HEALTH.

The ruling in the US Court case on fluoridation is out!

The Federal Court judge has concluded “Plaintiffs have proven, by a preponderance of the evidence, that water fluoridation at the level of 0.7 mg/L – the prescribed optimal level of fluoridation in the United States – presents an “unreasonable risk of injury to health or the environment”. 

New Zealand fluoridates at target of 0.85 mg/L with some Councils fluoridating up to the top end of the MoH target range of 1ppm.

The judge also drew on a pooled benchmark dose analysis carried out by renowned toxicologist Prof Philipe Grandjean, famous for his work on Mercury neurotoxicity, stating, “The pooled benchmark dose analysis concluded that a 1-point drop in IQ of a child is to be expected for each 0.28 mg/L of fluoride in a pregnant mother’s urine. This is highly concerning, because maternal urinary fluoride levels for pregnant mothers in the United States range from 0.8 mg/L at the median and 1.89 mg/L depending upon the degree of exposure. Not only is there an insufficient margin between the hazard level and these exposure levels, for many, the exposure levels exceed the hazard level of 0.28 mg/L.”

New Zealand research has found a median urine fluoride level of 0.82 mg/L (in fluoridated Palmerston North).

All New Zealand children whose mothers have consumed fluoridated water while pregnant have most probably sustained central nervous system damage resulting in lowered IQ and/or symptoms of ADHD, anxiety or depression.

Dr Diana Sarfati needs to immediately call a halt to all fluoridation schemes throughout the country. Not to do so is beyond all sense of reasonableness.

Councils who have been directed to fluoridate must push back against the Directive. All those currently fluoridating their public water supplies must urgently stop now.

The judge says “There is little dispute in this suit as to whether fluoride poses a hazard to human health. Indeed, EPA’s own expert agrees that fluoride is hazardous at some level of exposure. And ample evidence establishes that a mother’s exposure to fluoride during pregnancy is associated with IQ decrements in her offspring”.

The most compelling evidence presented to the court was the Systematic Review carried out by the United States National Toxicology Program (“NTP”) – the federal agency regarded by the US Government as experts in toxicity. Its systematic review of all available literature near the time of publication considered whether fluoride poses cognitive harm and concluded that fluoride is indeed associated with reduced IQ in children, at least at exposure levels at or above 1.5 mg/L (i.e., “higher” exposure levels). The judge went on to say that “scientists have observed a statistically significant association between fluoride and adverse effects in children even at such “lower” exposure levels (less than 1.5 mg/L)”.

Importantly, the Judge noted “The EPA’s default margin of error requires a factor of 10 between the hazard level and exposure level due to variability in human sensitivities.” Even using 1.5 mg/l, this means the maximum level in water “not posing an unreasonable risk” would be 0.15 mg/l. Further, any risk assessment must consider the total intake of fluoride, not just that from water.

In all, this judgment confirms what Fluoride-Free NZ has been saying for 20 years. Water fluoridation is not safe and needs to be stopped immediately. That is what the reliable science says and has always said.
