Is my town fluoridated?
The following is a list of all towns and cities in New Zealand that are, or have been, fluoridated. If your town is not on the list, then it has never been fluoridated. See also fluoridation status by council and what are they fluoridating with?
Note: In July 2022 the Director General of Health send the following councils an order to start fluoridation: Auckland (to fluoridate Onehunga), Hastings, Horowhenua, Kawerau, Nelson, New Plymouth, Rotorua Lakes, Tararua, Tauranga City, Waipa (for Cambridge), Waitaki, Western Bay of Plenty, Far North (for Kerikeri and Kaitaia) and Whangārei. Councils will have between six months and over three years, depending on the circumstances, to fluoridate parts of their water supply that were not already fluoridated. See our Legislation page for more information on this.

Fluoridation was stopped in 2016 due to an e-coli outbreak as the fluoride injectors were needed for delivering chlorine instead. As at 30th August 2023 it has not been restarted but work is ongoing so it is expected to be restarted at some stage. |
