Would you please advise with a simple yes or no – if you are elected, would you support pressuring the coalition Government to bring forward, and vote for, the Member’s Bill introduced by NZ First, which seeks to repeal the Health (Fluoridation of Drinking Water) Amendment Act 2021 so that decision making for fluoridation can be returned to the hands of each local council?

Ian Cummings

The Director-General of Health, has no business forcing communities to fluoridate their water. It’s a clear case of central government overreach. I believe individuals should have the right to decide what goes into their own bodies.

Bill Simpson

Yes

Ewen Darling

Yes. If I was elected to Council I would 100% support the decision making for fluoridation to be returned to each local Council.

Mullet Muzz McDowell

Absolutely. Get rid of fluoride from the water.

Cr. Sam Bennett
Yes
Yes .

Yes, AND I am campaigning for publicly accessible fluoride-free water sources for our District, ensuring that those who don’t consent to fluoridation have a free alternative.

I am against Fluoridation so yes I would support anything that would get it out of our water supply.

Craig Tonkin

I am neither for or against so I would be happy to put it to the community for their vote after a fair and balanced debate.

Graham Chard

Yes, I would support the bill

 Lani Hunt

Yes

Christine.Fabish

I am a yes to keeping it in the hands of local government

Simon Chadwick

Yes, I would support pressuring the Government to return decision making for fluoridation to the hands of each local council. I support an individual’s choice to decide what to put into their body.

I don’t believe water should be fluoridated.
It is a medication and parents should be able to decide for themselves and their children, toothpaste has fluoride if that is their choice

Jonathan Marshall

Of course, I will be a pressure on the government for good health policies.

Greg Mackay

BOOTS & ALL

I WANT TO SEE IT REMOVED.

I PERSONALLY WOULD LIKE TO GO AND REMOVE IT MYSELF.

I asked the person involved with the water department at the

New Plymouth Council for a sample so I could have it tested.

ANSWER. I`m not allowed to give any.

Asked once more.

ANSWER.   I`m not allowed to give ” YOU ANY “.

I was one of many here in New Plymouth whom helped to have it removed the first time.

Not afraid to stand up to Parliament.

Guarantee the so called Health Minister has never had it tested nor any Council.

Jane Parker-Bishop

Fluoridation is a complex public health issue. At present, decision-making sits with the Director-General of Health under the Health (Fluoridation of Drinking Water) Amendment Act 2021, not with local councils. I respect that central government has taken responsibility for this matter, as it is ultimately a health policy question.

If decision-making were to be returned to councils in the future, I would want any approach to be guided by clear, evidence-based health advice alongside meaningful community consultation.

Unless asked by the constituents of my ward, no. My job would be to represent the people of my ward, nothing more.
I also believe the district has far bigger issues currently that my skill set would be better to address.
But if the constituents wanted me to, then yes.

I would also hope that voters would select a council with a vast range of backgrounds and skillsets, resulting in having a councillor better skilled at this particular issue.
