“When our first son lost his baby teeth and his front adult teeth started coming through we saw that he had big discoloured patches on them.  Very concerned we took him to the dentist who told us these patches were moderate dental fluorosis and they are completely harmless but unfortunately would be there permanently.  We were told some children are more sensitive to fluoride than others.  Our eldest and youngest children have mild dental fluorosis.   The cost of fixing his teeth with porcelain veneers is $1200 per tooth. Our son now has a form of Diabetes which causes him to drink large amounts of water. That forces us to obtain unfluoridated water from Petone.  The Ministry of Health’s attempts to supposedly help disadvantaged children avoid tooth decay is in fact causing many children to have a new disease of fluorosis along with other multiple health issues.”
