Fluoridation…the bad news – and a plan of action.
If you have not already heard, we have very bad news – Waitaki water will be fluoridated by the end of this month.
Council’s Press release: Director General of Health confirms fluoridation for Ōamaru
If you have the Waitaki App see yesterday’s article: Fluoride in Ōamaru water by end of June.
It is terrible that it has to come to this and the Bill of Rights Act seems to mean nothing according to these mandates and the High Court’s recent decision that Hastings fluoridation must be allowed to continue. Judge allows unlawful directive regardless of Bill of Rights.
It looks like the ‘powers that be’ are trying to push fluoride through everywhere they can as soon as they can, meanwhile dragging their feet on the Director General of Health completing her Bill of Rights Analysis which appears to have been put (way back) on the backburner. But of course we can’t sit back and accept this.
So what do we do?
We get people on the streets! We protest our outrage at the NZ Government mandates with a public march, signs, bagpipes, drums… down Oamaru’s main street ending at the Council, to coincide with their next meeting June 25th. (Exact time and details to be advised)
We give a public speech over a loudspeaker. We invite the Council to come out and hear us/ talk with us. We tell them, Council, we need your help! Please defend and protect this community. We ask the Council to ask the people of Waitaki what they want to do about this problem that faces us all.
I feel that protests should be aimed at government- and we see the Council as ‘us’ not them… and somehow put ours heads together on this. …
I feel that our Council was becoming educated and starting to be ‘on the same page’ as us about fluoride harms and it’s such a shame that they now have a very big stick being waved at them. I don’t think attacking our Council will help matters. We must attack the NZ Government, and rally our Council to be courageous and stand behind us to fight this together and to find solutions to limit the damage from this stuff wherever possible .
We must protest – we need a massive showing of public outrage. And even if it can’t be stopped for now – we all work together to find solutions. Such as…
…fundraising and sponsorship for shared public filters and safe water fountains, public health notifications to pregnant women and those with bottle fed babies, celebrating fluoride free businesses, educating the community on the harms, and how to avoid them…. let’s get everyone thinking and talking.
We can find some ways around this and thumb our noses at Govt. and maybe even set a great example to other towns, ‘The Government put the poison in…but we will take it back out!’
Here is the start of a plan.
1). Everyone call preferably (or email) the Council/any and all Councillors, Waitaki MP. Politely but strongly express your concerns. Ask questions about a public fountain(s), ask how they will protect vulnerable citizens. We want their phones ringing off the hook.
2). Show your outrage and protest march through town on June 25th, finishing outside Council. Time to be advised, but either at the lunch hour and/or to coincide with the next Council meeting. Even if we can get 100 people that is very significant. But hopefully many more!!! Maybe we can get a bagpiper/drummer. Brainstorm other ways to make this BIG!
3). Advertise the march. Help deliver fliers to advise Waitaki people about this Protest March and meeting outside the Council. We can get 2000 A5 double sided color fliers printed for $266 from Fluoride Free NZ. Any donations to costs would be amazing. They will also courier down some protest signs. Spread the word far and wide- try to get solid commitment from friends and family to meet you there to march.
4.) Make signs, paint bedsheets, tape messages on your vehicles or any people you know who live on the Main Street/highway. eg:
NZ Government- we won’t swallow your Fluoride poison.
Fluoride lowers IQ
Fluoridation – Toxic waste disposal
Fluoridation – Rejected in Europe
Watch this space – I will be in touch as I learn more. Please email me back with ideas. We can use the Facebook group chat option, or start up a private local messenger/Telegram/Signal group . We could also have a meeting soon, will look at options and get back to you all. If people have ideas they want to run with then go for it!!
Filter options
There are a few options people are bouncing around.
Some of you will have seen some options discussed on the Fluoride Free Waitaki Facebook group. Also Health 2000 in town has an option you could go and talk to them about.
I have asked on the Fluoride Free Coordinators group and just got this recommendation:
https://suekelly.co.nz/ They said ‘This lady has been in business in Christchurch for a while and people I know have received very good service. You may want to talk to Ionza, based in the Nelson area, too. They are super helpful and easy to deal with.’
Also I have been recommended Taylor Purification ( Chris Hughes is the Manager) https://taylor-purification.co.nz/
I personally got a Waters Co 10L benchtop filter sometime ago. They have whole house options right down to 600 mm fluoride filtering water bottles. The whole house options look to be out of stock on the website though….
We are possibly going to look at rainwater because we have a very large shed roof.
There seems to be a small piece of good news so far that those on Waitaki water irrigation schemes will not have the water fluoridated. I am not absolutely sure of that but that is what I gathered from the discussion on the council Facebook page.
Other happenings
We have had some great newspaper coverage from Oamaru Mail, and this week an article appearing in the Telegram which was submitted before this devastating news – but will still hopefully raise awareness of the fluoride harms, and our need to stand up, speak out and try and protect our community.
Please share this email with supportive friends and ask them to contact me with their email addresses if they want added to the group (recipient email addresses are not publicly displayed).
This is a trying time and it’s easy to feel disheartened but please don’t give up people!! We will find ways to avoid this poiso

Great article thankyou and yes let’s keep fighting this. A lot of Rotorua’s water supply comes from natural fresh underground water. Why would you want to put poison in it?
