With fluoride chemicals recently added to the Oamaru water, research from the Netherlands suggests some people could have acute symptoms over the next few months.
Dr Hans Moolenburgh was a Medical Physician, Cancer Specialist, and Clinical Ecologist who led a team of medical doctors and researchers in the 1970s. Using double blind trials they showed that fluoridation resulted in people being subjected to low grade poisoning, with wide ranging side effects.
Approximately 5% of people showed acute symptoms. “The adverse health effects began almost at once, with people, especially children, developing colicky pains,” he said. In the first 2-3 months they saw a lot of headaches, stomach aches, sore mouths, babies that wouldn’t stop crying, dizziness, weakness, blurred vision, and eczemas and, after 3-4 months, joint pain and arthritis-like complaints. In each instance, changing to non-fluoridated water cured the complaints, although joint pains took 2-3 months to resolve.
When fluoridated water was returned, the complaints returned. He found that over time many people’s immune systems adapt – so the acute symptoms appear to vanish. But constantly overtaxing the immune system in this way could open the door to other serious health problems.
Dr Moolenburgh’s research led to the Netherlands banning fluoridation. Today the whole of continental Europe and 90% of the UK is unfluoridated.
