MoH POLICY OF FLUORIDATION OF PUBLIC WATER SUPPLIES
The accompanying paper draws your attention to adverse consequences of the Ministry of Health (MoH) policy of putting industrial-waste forms of fluoride and associated bio-accumulative substances into public water supplies.
The MoH is currently pursuing a Bill that would give statutory powers to its DHBs to require local authorities to insert these bio-accumulative toxins into public water supplies. That Bill has had its first reading in the House.
The purpose of this communication to you is:
- a) to advise you of the adverse consequences to public health of the MoH policy to advance fluoridation of public water supplies;
- b) to advise you that a significant portion of the NZ public has lost confidence in the MoH over this matter alone because the MoH is ignoring relevant risks stemming from its policy;
- c) to advise you that MoH is not acting in the public interest;
- d) to advise you that MoH is acting contrary to the purposes of several existing statutes; and therefore
- e) to advise you that the MoH initiative to invite Parliament to pass its Bill would have the effect of requiring informed local authorities to act unlawfully and not in the public interest.
Thus, the MoH policy and its Bill are absurd constructs when examined against principles of law and principles of statutory interpretation. Furthermore, the MoH did not record in its Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) any of the adverse consequences that are relevant considerations for the MoH policy of requiring fluoridation of public water supplies – and therefore those adverse consequences have not been given any due weight.
The effect of that deficient MoH RIA is therefore to mislead Parliament while inviting it to pass a Bill into statute that will clearly be against the public interest – while making a nonsense of existing statutory purposes which have the intent to protect the safety of people and the NZ environment.
Such MoH conduct therefore clearly breaches the trust that necessarily reposes between the people of New Zealand and the government that is supposed to only act in the public’s best interests. That is a very serious matter.
PSGR therefore recommends that you –
- a) consider carefully the facts contained in this communication;
- b) consider raising these points within your caucus; and
- c) consider raising related questions in the House when the Bill is advanced for a second reading.
- d) apply common sense and logic to your deliberations.

Even if fluoride may be good for your teeth topically (in toothpaste) the research has shown that it isn’t systemically (that is in our water) it is ineffective. However even if there was a benefit it is mitigated by the adverse effects it can have on the rest of our health. This has been well researched and documented. It is an endocrine disrupter and a neurotoxin.
We all need to be making mass protests against having mandatory fluoridation imposed on us but it is hard for a nation where there is one person to seven sheep to not to adopt the character traits of sheep and be followers. Still it used to be 1 person to 20 sheep so may be this trend will reduce this ‘following’ trait.
98% of Europeans have rejected fluoridation as unethical and a health hazard. Why don’t New Zealanders learn from them? Why do we still pay homage to the United States a country with the most abysmal track record in regard to protecting their citizens against big business? They have invented and/or promoted many, if not most of the products that are polluting our waters, our domestic crops and livestock and us. These include disposing of the toxic waste of aluminium smelting in the public drinking water supply- water fluoridation; in 1951 it was the FDA that first approved the use of antibiotics in the feed of livestock to increase their weight. They were the first country to use DDT in 1945 as an agricultural and household pesticide. They are the home of Monsanto’s products: Agent Orange, and its main poison, Dioxin. It sold PCBs, the controversial dairy cow hormone, rBGH, and the cancer-linked Aspartame sweetener. They produce Round up (made of the carcinogen glyphosate), and GMOs.
It is time New Zealanders stood up and took notice of the research. If we are going to be followers Europe would certainly be a better bet than the US who shamelessly use their citizens for FDA approved experimentation on all manner of poorly researched toxic experiments that line the pockets of a few while violating the health and interests of the public.
