Is my town fluoridated? 

The following is a list of all towns and cities in New Zealand that are, or have been, fluoridated.  If your town is not on the list, then it has never been fluoridated. See also fluoridation status by council and what are they fluoridating with?

Note: In July 2022 the Director General of Health sent the following councils an order to start fluoridation: Auckland (to fluoridate Onehunga and Waiuku), Hastings, Horowhenua, Kawerau, Nelson, New Plymouth, Rotorua Lakes, Tararua, Tauranga City, Waipa (for Cambridge), Waitaki, Western Bay of Plenty, Far North (for Kerikeri and Kaitaia) and Whangārei. 

So far they have all, except Waipa and Far North, started fluoridation despite push back from many of the councils. It is expected that Waipa and Far North will start this year.

NZ Army Camps fluoridated:

• Burnham Army Camp, Christchurch
• Linton Army Camp, Palmerston North, Manawatu
• Trentham Military Camp, Upper Hutt, Wellington
• Papakura Military Camp, Auckland

All camps except Waiouru are fluoridated.

RNZAF Airbases fluoridated:

• Woodbourne, Blenheim
• Whenuapai, Auckland

NZ Prisons fluoridated: (No alternative is provided to inmates)

• Auckland Prison
• Mt Eden Corrections Facility
• Auckland Region Women’s Correction Facility
• Hawke’s Bay Regional Prison
• Remutaka Prison
• Arohata Prison
• Otago Corrections Facility
• Milton Prison
• Invercargill Prison
